Kathreiners Maltz-Kaffee was one of the subsidiarys of the German group known as Katzreiner AG. A company who specialised in groceries. The original business was founded in Munich in 1829 by Franz Kathreiner. Emil Wilhelm took the business over in 1870, soon after in 1876 he was joined by Adolph Brougier as a business partner. The company name was changed to Kathreiner FKN. Throughout the next 100 plus years the company grew to one of the largest of its kind on Germany. Trading in wholesale and retail, eventually owning several supermarkets. Unfortunately by the late 1990's the company ceased to trade. Although Nestle, who took over production of the Malt Coffee product, still produce it today.

This is an enamel sign with a fascinating history.
